Why do we think diversity in the fashion industry is important?
Diversity in the fashion industry has grown exponentially in recent years, with a stronger focus on the representation of people of colour, plus size models and a range of sexual orientations and gender expressions.
This has been reflected through large brand campaigns, such as Transgender model Hari Nef’s feature in the L’oreal’s Tru Match Foundation Campaign. Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty foundation launch that resulted in her brand being named in Time’s 2017 annual list of the 25 best inventions of the year. As well as this, we are seeing the impressive results of representation in the media, with Black Panther having the third-biggest box office debut ever in its first 4 opening days.
With this in mind, we think it is important to cultivate this growing change in the Fashion Industry, and make NEON not only diverse but inclusive – allowing all types of models to express themselves however they may feel comfortable. This is why we are launching our Curve Model segment, to allow models of all races, shapes and sizes to feel supported at NEON, as we seek to break through an industry full of stereotypes.
Through our segment, we hope to support the movement for fashion brands to reflect the reality of their consumers. As well as this, we are extremely motivated to create a constructive, supportive and safe environment for models, as we seek to embrace all women and men as they come.
